Updated: Sep 18, 2023

In any corporate or commercial premises, the attendance and working timings of an employee is a matter of concern to track his performance graph. When the entry and exit timings and the working hours of an employee is noted precisely, not only the output of the production can be increased, but also the payments can be made accordingly.

The over payment or underpayments depend on the number of absents and the work timings of the employees. It is practically impossible to keep this track every record manually. Therefore, time clock-in and out machinery or systems are introduced in the work places.

Time clock for perfect data Time theft is the largest concern in the business world.  The survival and the growth of business always depend on productivity, and this productivity depends on the working employees. So, for a business to flourish and thrive, the entire employee has not only to be on time but also put maximum efforts during their work timings. Admittedly, the entry and exit timings and working hours must be watched. A time clock in and out is such a system that can keep a complete track record of all the timings of employees. A time clock in and out is a device which records the entry timing of an employee as he punches the card in the machine. The machine collects data from the card like name of an employee, employee number if any, and the timing at which the card is punched. The same process is repeated while the employee exits. This punching of the card allows the machine to collect the data of entry and exit of an employee, thus calculating the work timings. The time clock in and out system does not involve any manual dabbling, so the data availed is quite perfect.

Types of the time clock in and out and their uses According to the policies of a company or a business, one can choose from a variety of time clock in and out, systems. Here are some types of systems and their advantages –

  1. Card punching time clock- This can be called as a traditional or old school method; the machine is fitted at the entrance and exit of the business premises. The employees have a personal access card which they have to punch before entering and before exiting. The information in the card is collected by machine, and then a manual report is made.

  2. Swipe card time clock- This is a bit sophisticated in terms of using the cards. A card with a magnetic chip or magnetic bar is handed over to each employee where in employee code is punched. As the employee swipes the card, his information is registered, and a data is formed. At the end of the month, this data is collected and used for payment purpose.

  3. Numeric pass word time clock- A calculator like a machine is fitted and each employee can press their numeric password, however mostly the numbers in the passwords are provided by the company, so forgetting them can turn into a big issue.

  4. Bio metric- This is the most modern and used system when it comes to calculation of attendance and the work timings of the employees. This system works mainly on the physical appearance of the employees like fingerprints, face, or eyes recognition. This is the safest, trusted, and efficient system.

The time clock in and out is mainly fitted to keep a track on the attendance and the working timings of the employees. Depending on the natures of an individual business or company, an individual can select any of the above systems and avoid time theft or over payments.
